KUALA LUMPUR, 14th Dec 2018 – On 29th November 2018, an academic staff and 13 undergraduate and postgraduate students from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) visited the University of Malaya High Voltage Laboratory (UMHVL) in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. The visit was part of their educational activities.
During the visit, the Head of UMHVL, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Hazlee Azil Illias, who is also the Secretary of IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Malaysia Chapter and the Counselor of IEEE University of Malaya Student Branch, introduced various high voltage research facilities available in the laboratory and briefed the visitors on the research activities carried out in the laboratory. After that, demonstration on breakdown in air under applied high voltage was performed in the lab to enhance the students’ experience on breakdown phenomena.
Dr. Hazlee also took the opportunity to promote IEEE DEIS to the visitors and encouraged them to become a member of IEEE DEIS.
