Rocklin International School Visit to UMHVL

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 October 2026 – Three teachers and 33 school students from Rocklin International School, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia visited the Universiti Malaya High Voltage Laboratory (UMHVL) at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya on 1 October 2026. The visit was part of their educational activities and school field trips. During the visit, the Head of UMHVL, Professor Ir. Dr. Hazlee Azil Illias, introduced Universiti Malaya and the facilities at UMHVL, and explained the activities carried out at the lab and the lab safety requirement. Dr. Hazlee also explained briefly high voltage, electrical discharge, air ionization and lightning phenomena to enhance the understanding of the students in these topics. After the briefing, the visitors went to the high voltage lab to gain a better insight into the lab and lightning phenomena. In the lab, Dr. Hazlee explained the high voltage generation circuit and then demonstrated electrical discharge phenomena under AC, DC and impulse voltages. This educational visit and school field trip greatly benefited the school students by connecting classroom lessons to real-world experiences.
